Cleaning and Maintenance
Supplies
A clean empty spray bottle filled with a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water.
Gentle detergent. Fan. Hangers. Folex, oxiclean, or other similar carpet stain removers that do not use bleach.
A wide tooth comb, avoid standard ‘dog brushes’ as these are designed to pull out fur. Only use if needed on particularly matted areas.
Ensure you always wear a full set of under armor, a balaclava, and socks when wearing your suit. Our suits are form fitting, and not wearing proper gear can potentially damage or reduce the life of your suit. If you notice your suit is particularly odorous, you can also opt for an enzyme killing sport detergent.
Heads
Regular Maintenance
For any stains on your head, gentle spot clean with folex or oxiclean. Do not use blech. After each wear, spritz your 50/50 mix inside the head to maintain freshness. Ensure you thoroughly soak the padding, lining, and straps before leaving the head face down and zipper open on a fan to properly dry. This will help kill any bacteria that will potentially cause unpleasant odors to develop in your suit.
Full Wash
Before a full wash, insert paper towels into the eyes and remove the fan and battery bank to prevent water damage to electronic components. In a tub or sink, use a small amount of gentle detergent mixed with cool water to soak the neck ruff and gently scrub the fur. Continue soaking and rinsing until all suds are gone, and the water runs clear. Wipe down the padding, or for a deeper clean, use a handheld carpet cleaner like a green machine to more thoroughly soak the material. Ensure no detergent is left in the fur fibers, as this can leave a residue on your suit which will leave an unpleasant texture and will cause your fur to clump.
Once clean, allow the head to air out and dry properly, set your head on a fan in a well-ventilated area with the back unzipped and open. Before brushing, ensure the fur is fully dry, as damp fur fibers may stick to your brush and risk being stretched or pulled out.
Handpaws
Regular Maintenance
Sanatize as needed. Rinse off any dirt or fluids with cool water before lightly soaking with your 50/50 mix. Hang your handpaws in a well ventilated space to dry, preferably with a fan.
Full Wash
Handpaws can be hand washed with gentle detergent and cool water in a sink. Gently scrub the fur together and use folex or oxiclean for any stubborn stains. They can also be cleaned using your washing machine. Ensure you use cold wash only.
Footpaws
Regular Maintenance
After wear, remove your footpaws and pull the inner liner inside out and lightly soak with your 50/50 mix. Set in front of a fan to fully dry to ensure freshness.
Full wash
Footpaws can be hand or machine washed with cold water, dry with the inner liner turned inside out in front of a fan. Brush fluffy again when full dry. If your footpaws are building stains, rub oxiclean or folex into the deeper stains and allow to sit overnight before washing to remove stubborn stains.
Bodysuits
Regular Maintenance
After each wear, ensure you full soak the inside of your suit with your 50/50 mix. With particular focus on your crotch and pit areas. Leave the bodysuit zipper open and hang your suit in front of a fan.
Full Wash
Bodysuits can be hand washed or machine washed on cold water with a front loading machine only. DO NOT wash your bodysuit in a top loading machine with an agitator. This can damage the suit. To prepare your body for wash, if you have attached footpaws unzip them, and destuff your tail and thigh padding. For machine wash, if you are able, turn your bodysuit inside out before placing it in your washing machine to reduce stress on your fur. Make sure you wash your footpaws separate from your bodysuit to reduce stress on the machine and insure a more proper clean of your suit. Use a gentle detergent on a normal cycle with cold water only.
If you are unable to machine wash your suit, then for hand washing fill a bath with cool water and gentle detergent. Full submerge and gently scrub your bodysuit, focusing especially on your crotch and pits. Once your feel you’ve thoroughly scrubbed your suit, full drain the tub. Then proceed to refill it with clean water only. Rinse and repeat until the water runs clear and no more suds remain. DO NOT lift your wet bodysuit, this will stretch and damage the fur. It will be incredibly heavy. Before you remove your bodysuit you will need to gently squeeze out as much of the water from your suit as you can. Only until you feel you can no longer remove any water from your suit by hand can you hang your bodysuit in front of a fan to fully dry.
Once your suit is completely dry, re-stuff your thighs and tail, then gently brush your fur fluffy again.
